Initial Teacher Training in Partnership with TES Institute
Southend High School for Boys is a partner school for BTSA, which provides high-quality primary and secondary teacher training across more than 50 placement schools in South Essex and Southend-on-Sea. Working in partnership with Tes Institute, BTSA combines the supportive feel of a close school partnership with the resources of one of the largest school-based Initial Teacher Training (ITT) providers in the country. The programme aims to prepare confident, knowledgeable and capable teachers for a rewarding career in education, with many trainees continuing their careers at SHSB thanks to the strong mentoring and training they receive.
Our programme is carefully structured to maximise time in the classroom and is available across a wide range of subjects. We use evidence-informed approaches based on current educational research, alongside guidance from experienced classroom practitioners and regional leaders. Trainees gain varied training experiences that help them apply theory in practice while developing key teaching skills. Strong emphasis is also placed on trainee wellbeing, encouraging regular reflection and prioritisation of personal development to support growth throughout the training journey.
To apply for a fee-funded teacher training programme (ITT route), you must have the following:
- GCSE grade C/ Grade 4 in Maths, English (primary trainees also require Science GCSE).
- A degree at classification 2:2 or above. If you wish to teach in the secondary sector, a large proportion of your degree should be in the subject you wish to teach, usually a minimum of 50%
