Fundraising

We have set up the Southend High School for Boys Charitable Trust, a registered charity to secure the future of the school through fundraising efforts. You can donate here.

The Key Objectives and Goals of the Trust:

  1. Fundraising: Develop and implement effective fundraising strategies to meet the financial needs of the school.
  2. Community Engagement: Foster strong relationships with the local community, alumni, and other stakeholders to garner support for the trust.
  3. Educational Excellence: Invest in educational resources, extracurricular programmes, and innovative teaching methods to enhance the learning experience.
  4. Sustainability: Ensure the long-term sustainability of the school by addressing financial challenges and securing stable funding sources.

How the Trust aims to achieve these goals:

  1. Annual Fundraising Events: Organise events both in School and outside including charity bike rides, non-uniform days, and gala dinners to raise funds for the trust.
  2. Alumni Network: Build on the strong relationship with the Old Southendian Association (OSA) to further support fundraising efforts and provide mentorship and potentially employment opportunities for current students.
  3. Community Partnerships: Collaborate with parents, local businesses (or those with local connections) and organisations to support the trust's initiatives and programmes.
  4. Grant Applications: Apply for grants from foundations and government agencies to secure additional funding for the Trust.

How you can help:

  1. The Charitable Trust has set up the 2025 Society. To join, you are invited to donate at least £20.25 per month (or £243 for the year). Those who subscribe to regular monthly or annual donations will be named on the list of society members (unless you prefer to remain anonymous); will receive a pin badge to recognise the commitment; and will be invited to exclusive events at the school.  You can read more about that here: https://www.shsbcharitabletrust.org/2025-society
  1. You may also wish to make one-off payments and/or make a higher monthly contribution. Full details can be found on the Charitable Trust Website.  Donate here.
  1. You can also support the school through Payroll Giving. This is a way of giving money to our charity direct from your gross pay before income tax is applied, effectively reducing your taxable income.

Please see an example below relating to a donation of £20.

20% Taxpayers: A £20 donation will cost you £16 (80% of the donation) because the tax relief of 20% (or £4) is effectively covered by the tax you would have paid on that amount. The charity receives £20.

40% Taxpayers: A £20 donation will cost you £12 (60% of the donation) as the tax relief of 40% (or £8) is effectively covered by the tax you would have paid on that amount. The charity receives £20.

Please speak with your employer if you want to support our charity in this way to see if they have a payroll giving scheme in place - some even match your donation! You will need to share the name of the charity (Southend High School for Boys Charitable Trust) and the registered charity number (1211479).
