What Year 7 pupils say about SHSB

The best way to get an idea of life at SHSB is to ask the pupils themselves. So we did and here are some examples of what they think about the School.

SHSB is… …a very big change for many …a community which works well together and achieves many successful grades and trophies. … A brand new adventure.

(Kendall Hill, 7ST3)

SHSB is an outstanding school! The teaching is great and facilities are phenomenal! If you play or enjoy music…then this is the school for you! The food and drinks are lovely and served by friendly dinner-ladies!

(Tobias Sales, 7ST2)

My impression of SHSB has changed a lot. At first I found it hard to finish classwork and bring in homework and everything that I needed for lessons. However, once I had settled in and made new friends, school became a lot easier and more enjoyable. The learning environment is very good and the school is helping me learn faster than another school would,

(Oliver Redington, 7ST1)

SHSB has welcomed me in as one of its own and made me feel welcome. No matter what you like to do, it’s here! Be it sport, drama or even chess. I have greatly enjoyed my time so far.

(Owen Watkins, 7EA2)

Southend High School for Boys is a brilliant school to be a part of. As well as great lesson, the school offers a diverse range of extra-curricular activities such as sport, which make us spoilt for choice. There is something for everyone.

(David Horvath-Franco, 7EA2)

The thing that SHSB do amazingly well at is sport. The sports teachers encourage me to be consistent at everything. I used to be anxious about getting my homework in, but the teachers made me relax and now it’s easy.

(Laurence Willmore, 7ST3)

This school in my opinion is about equality and good education.

(Joshua Amofah, 7ST3)

There is never a dull moment here at SHSB. Whether it’s playing a football match or competing in an academic activity, there is always something to learn and something to succeed in.

(Alex Harvey, 7EA2)

My school is great. I love everything; the music, the art, the sport – everything”! The best thing about the school though is probably hanging out with my friends at break time.

(Edward Renton, 7ST3)

My impression of SHSB is that even though it’s a grammar school, it’s a great place to be. The teachers are brilliant and not too strict. We don’t’ get too much homework, just enough to keep our brains on form. The sports facilities are fantastic. Every teacher is happy to answer questions, even ones like “What shape is the universe?” I love it here and couldn’t imagine a better school.

(Jonah Elvidge, 7ST1)

It’s great at SHSB! The teachers are so supportive and always want to help. The other pupils are kind and caring. I feel proud to walk in my green blazer and feel proud to belong to this school.

(Andrew Berry, 7ST3)
