SIXTH FORM Entry

A Levels Explained

Each A Level is divided into two discrete years of study:

1. GCE AS [Advanced Subsidiary] - Year 12 study

2. GCE A2 - Year 13 Study

Both AS Level (one year) and the full A Level (two years) provide valid qualifications for university entrance, with at least two full A Levels as the minimum entry requirement for most institutions.

The pattern of study here at SHSB is as follows:

•  Year 12: Choose FOUR subjects (plus General Studies). You will study these to AS Level in one year.

•  Year 13: Continue with THREE subjects (plus General Studies) to A2 in order to achieve a full A Level at the end of the Year 13.
