    Language Academy

The Language Academy at Southend High School for Boys:

Continuing to bring language learning success to our local community!

    What is The Language Academy

The Language Academy is the name for our Extra-curricular Language Programme, which started in September 2011.

Language Colleges were previously part of the Government's Specialist Schools initiative which aimed to improve teaching throughout the country by giving certain schools a specialist status. In June 2001, the Secretary of State for Education announced that Southend High School for Boys was to be designated a Language College. Since 2001, we have been:
    •  A school that has been recognised for the quality of its teaching throughout the curriculum
    •  A centre of excellence for the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages
    •  A school which has been challenged not only to further improve the quality of education for its pupils but also has the remit to extend its work supporting the learning needs of the local community
    •  A school which has developed strong links with other schools in the area.
Since October 2010, the government has withdrawn the funding for the Specialist Schools programme. However, our aim is to continue to be a centre of excellence for the teaching and learning of modern foreign languages and to continue to provide a high quality service of language tuition to our community, albeit this service will no longer be subsidised or funded by additional grants.

    Fees

We aim to provide excellence at the lowest possible cost to the customer. The fees for our courses are competitive and offer the chance to achieve a qualification in a foreign language for as little as £3 per hour.
