Pensions Issue

The industrial action which was taken recently was initiated because of concerns relating to proposed changes to the Teachers Pension Scheme. Dr Bevan recently wrote to our local MPs opposing these changes: extracts from that letter are available here. The letter contains a detailed rationale and parents are encouraged to examine the issues for themselves. Dr Bevan has recently received a response via David Amess MP from Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for Schools, which can be found by clicking here.

Fair Trade News

We are delighted to announce that Southend High School for Boys has been awarded Fair Trade Status. The Fair Trade Foundation seeks to promote justice for farmers in the developing world and it is exciting that many of our pupils are continuing to be made aware of implications of Fair Trade for our World.

Bad weather

Over the coming months, in the event of bad weather, a decision will be made as early as possible about any school closure, and notified via BBC Essex, Heart FM and Southend Radio. In addition, Southend Local Authority will list school closures on their website: www.southend.gov.uk / Education and Learning / Schools & colleges. The school will only close if it is deemed genuinely dangerous to encourage pupils and staff to travel. For as long as the school is ‘open’, if there are any individual pupils who are unable to reach the school in bad weather, they should report their absence as usual.  If the school closes during the day, parents will be notified via ParentMail and a notice will be put onto this website.
