Course Content

A2 Level (Year 13)

5. You will study two plays. The approach will be practical, not theoretical (as distinct from the requirements of English Literature) and the emphasis will be on plays as theatre . We consider the dramatic possibilities of the plays and examine the practical challenges they present to an actor or director

6.  As a group, you and your colleagues will rehearse and perform part of a play text. This will be prepared both inside and outside lessons and will be examined both as work in progress and as a finished performance before an audience.

7.  You will continue to join evening visits to live theatre productions and maintain detailed critical notes of each experience (see 3. above). This breadth of experience will be essential for the synoptic paper (Unit 6)

8.  You will learn the skills of studying unseen play texts and interpreting these as material for potential public performance.

9.  You will study and apply in practical terms the theories of the German theatre practitioner Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956). As far as possible these will be linked to your work on the set texts, your practical work and the live theatre you have seen during the course.
