Club Badge CS5 Club Mark

Established over 90 years, The Old Southendian & Southchurch Cricket Club holds England and Wales Cricket Board Clubmark accreditation and works closely with the Essex County Cricket Board on Cricket Development in Southend through its Coaching activities and the “Chance to Shine” initiative in Primary Schools. The Club is proud of its close relationship with Southend High School for Boys through its affiliation with the Old Southendian Association.

The Club fields Youth teams at Under 11, Under 13 (2 Teams) and Under 15 (2 Teams) levels in League and Cup competitions organised by the South Essex District Cricket Board.

As part of our Cricket Development initiatives, Coaching and Practice Sessions are organised throughout the year in accordance with England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Welfare guidelines, and run by ECB qualified Coaches:

  • From October to December, Youth (Y4 – Y11) Indoor Sessions for BOYS AND GIRLS are held in the Southend High School for Boys Sports Hall on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings
  • From January to April, Youth (Y4 – Y11) Indoor coaching sessions for BOYS AND GIRLS are held in the Southend High School for Boys Sports Hall on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and on Sunday afternoons.
  • From May to July, Youth Outdoor coaching sessions for BOYS AND GIRLS are held on Monday and Tuesday evenings (Y4 – Y8) at Garon Park, and Friday evenings at Southend High School for Boys (Y9 – Y11)

All playing equipment is provided, boys and girls new to cricket only need to wear clothing suitable for sports activities and training shoes or the like. For older and more experienced players, there is the opportunity to practice batting against the Club’s new Bowling Machine!

At Senior level, four Saturday Teams play in the Shepherd Neame Essex Cricket League, a fifth eleven is planned for 2011, with one Sunday Team playing friendly fixtures. Senior Indoor Net Sessions are also held in the Southend High School for Boys Sports Hall on Sunday afternoons from the end of February until the start of the playing Season.

Many current and former students of the School attend Club Sessions throughout the year and as Club Members, have the opportunity to take part in other Club activities including matches against other Clubs.

If you have a son or daughter who is interested in cricket, whether a beginner or with previous cricket experience, and who is not a member of another Cricket Club at present (or is looking to find a new Club), please contact me for more information about these Sessions.
