The SHSB Parents’ Association is a registered charity and was founded to promote and facilitate social interaction between parents and the school and to assist in furthering the well-being of the school by raising additional funds to support the school in ways that would not be funded elsewhere.
Who are we?
All parents and guardians of SHSB pupils are members of the Parents’ Association and are encouraged to participate in supporting the association. All are eligible to join the PA committee which has 14 members at present.
What do we do?
The PA committee organises a number of social and fund-raising events during the year with activities such as the following:
Curry nights
Quiz nights
Summer fete
Discos – Year 7 and 8 students
Dance nights
Race nights.
Our representatives on the committee, together with other volunteer parents, also work with the school and Governors by providing refreshments to support the school at Parent’s Evenings and social events.
How are the funds used?
The funds can be used by the school in various ways including:
Resources for individual school departments enabling them to purchase resources for pupils which they would otherwise be unable to afford.
Contributing to whole-school campaigns or projects e.g. Sports & Music Centre equipment, cycle sheds, Minibus, projectors, etc
What can you do to help?
We warmly welcome voluntary help for any of our school functions at any time and on any level. Every Autumn we hold an AGM where parents can elect to stand for the committee and members of that committee attend regular meetings. If you would like to become involved with the PA, or have a suggestion for a fundraising activity, then please contact Mrs Ann Thorp, School PA Representative, on 0844 4771752.
